Making Progress

January 31st, 2007 by Danny

Welcome to this my first post on my blog, which by chance also happens to be my birthday. Well maybe not by chance, as a matter of fact it was downright intentional. I figured hey, what better way to start off a new year of life than a place to ramble on and
post stuff.

I find that as I get older I realize more and more how much of a divide there is between the “school” years and the “post” school years. Growing up I always thought there was some sort of a seamless connection between the two, and I guess for some that might be the case, but not for me. The world post formal education is interesting to say the least. If anything it definitely shows you who your friends are seeing as how all those other people you used to consider “friends” are nowhere to be found.

So this year, I get home from work, walk into the house and something’s not right. My little brother was in his room sleeping, my parents, nowhere to be found. Very rare for them to leave the boy un-attended. So I start walking around kinda nervous trying to figure out what the hell was going on. I go into the backyard and walk up to the door of my room and as I open it…the eerie automated sound of that stupid bear that sings happy birthday.

My parents bought this retarded bear that sings Happy Birthday when you squeeze his hand years ago. Every year for god only knows how long, they squeeze his little hand on birthdays. Thing is creepy.

So anyways, I walk into my room and there it is sitting on my bed singing. No one else in the room. I have a quick Child’s Play moment and then catch my mom hidiing along side my bed cracking up, hiding. She jumped up and yelled “Happy Birthday!” and showered me with hugs and kisses. She had outfitted the bed with no pillow cases, a comforter, etc. The works. Definitely the first time I’ve ever been surprised by them. It was special.

The highlight of the day however had to be what happened just a few hours ago. I head over to the girlfriend’s house to spend the later half of my b-day with her. I wasn’t really sure what to expect. She’s very thoughtful when it comes to gifts. Thinks really really hard before getting something. As I walk in she greets me with a plate of homemade Snickerdoodles, a big Martenlli’s Apple Juice, and “The Secret Art of Dr. Seuss“. Talk about having me pegged. It was just the extra special gift I needed to make it a Happy Birthday.

Well that’s it for the 1st post. Many a things to look forward to this year. Getting out of debt, moving out, etc. I really hope to at the very lest get a good amount of photo done. I’m telling myself to shoot daily just to get back into the swing of things. Also, I’m trying to keep up the drawing as to not grow stale. I’ll be posting some stuff as it becomes readily available. So thanks for the patience, and for reading.
