Annual Halloween luncheon dealy at work today. This year our department went the simple, yet very effective route, by going as Apple store employees, which I personally think we pulled off. Solid black tees, apple stickers, and name badges courtesy of Josh. It looked pretty legit.
As usual everyone hung out, drank plenty, and enjoyed the festivities. This year, aside from the costume contest, there was a pumpkin carving contest which we felt we had for sure. When it came down to it however, our design was way too complex and took too long. We finished it anyway just to do it, and it looked sick! It was the classic Jack Torrance face from The Shining. We were so busy and involved with our design that we didn’t catch who won the prize. Regardless, it was pretty chill, and a good time. Click below for some more pics.

Take the Beastie Boys, remove every hit they ever had, subtract manhood and add vaginas and what do you get? Answer…a migraine, and Northern State. Sweet Jesus that was painful. The female version of the Beastie Boys was such a waste of my life that i’m making it a point to tell people to avoid them at all cost.
Retarded, overweight, female, hip-hop aside…Tegan and Sara were incredible! They couldn’t have been any better. They played all their hits, some acoustic alternatives, and a few covers, including Rihanna’s hit “Umbrella”. The highlight of the night would have to be when some retard decided to throw a piece of gum on stage. The was nearly hit Sara, so she stopped the performance momentarily to ask who had thrown the gum. They were good sports about it, but not without bringing up the house lights and asking the drunk chick what the hell her problem was. The chick claimed she threw the gum because she “loves you guys so much!”, to which Tegan replied, “Oh ok well I get it, in that case let me go grab a brick and huck it at you since I love you so damn much. Don’t fuck with us, we’re Canadian, we’ll fuck you up.” Awesome! The concert continued, and all was well.
Also, the Orpheum is incredible. I’ll be seeing Stars there on the 10th. Can’t wait.

Last Saturday I was given the task of documenting the release of a special collaboration between DVS and Diamond supply Company. It was kinda last minute but it was definitely an opportunity to practice some event photography. I got there at around 11 and found a long line of kids waiting to get in the store. To be honest it was surprising. I didn’t really think there could ever be a line for a skate shoe, but I was wrong. I’m guessing that the fact that it was a collaboration and that the shoe was limited to 100 pairs, made it a hot item. Jeron was also there to greet and sign boxes. He even put together a custom complete to give away to the first person in line. Very generous.
There was also an after party later in the evening which I also got to shoot. After much editing and color correcting, here are my picks from the shoot. You can also see the ones that made the site at www.dvsskate.com. Click below to see the pics.

Interpol was amazing last night! They played a great set with a combination of songs from all their albums. Last time I saw them was at the Grand Olympic Auditorium. The sound was fucking horrible. This time around, great! The Liars also opened for them which was an added treat. Sound issues aside (they’re never right for the opening band) they were awesome too.
Everything went great, with few exceptions. The god damn interuptions! What’s the deal? I had to pay for my tickets the same as most of the people there. But then there are those tards who either didn’t get tickets in time, or bought fakes and then try and stand in front of you and pretend they sit there. Seriously, it’s just dumb. Security shows up and starts this whole “where are you tickets, you’re not supposed to be here, etc. etc.” right in front of you while you’re trying to enjoy the show. Annoying. They get escorted away, and not a minute later a whole other group is there.
Anyways, Teagn and Sara are next on the list next Monday. Should be great.
This weekend was concert 1 of many in the next few months. It was Rilo Kiley at the Grove of Anaheim. It was friggin’ amazing! The venue was great. Ample parking, great acoustics, and plenty of room. As for the concert itself, it was awesome. The opening act was Grand Ole’ Party. A three piece band where the lead singer is the drummer. Pretty awesome. The next band was a new favorite of mine, The Bird and the Bee. They’re a blend of jazz and electronic music. Great vocals from the duo. Their act was just as memorable as Rilo Kiley’s. Check them out if you haven’t already. They’re worth a listen.
Rilo Kiley was incredible. I questioned whether or not Jenny Lewi’s vocals would live up to the great sound on the record, and boy did it. She has an amazing voice. They played well into the night and followed the act with an after party. Pick up their new album for sure (Under the Blacklight), it’s rad. Check out the photos from Leslie Agan of the OC Weekly at this link: HERE. P.S. there was a Dolly Parton impersonator.
Next Concert on the list is Interpol at the forum on the 23rd. It’s going to be awesome. Plus The Liars are going to open for them. Can’t wait…
As it turns out, Sophie is a weirdo and loves water. Behold her adventures drinking/bathing herself in the sink. She also loves lying down in the fridge and freezer. She even lets us close the door!
