[The hands of one of the greatest skateboarders out there.]

Was looking over on the wall at that Daewon board again and I remembered I had a few photos I shot a little while ago at a shoot for some upcoming DVS commercials with Daewon and Robbie Russo. Seeing him skate is evidence enough of his dedication to skateboarding, but seeing how he goes through shoes or how he rides his trucks is an added bonus. Click below for more pictures.

Something Special…

I received something very special today. Daewon gave me one of his decks with a very special message on it. Definitely made my day. Would have never imagined I’d get to meet and skate with my favorite skateboarder of all time. To receive something like this from him is very special. This deck is proudly hanging on my wall. Amazing skateboarder and all-around awesome human. Thanks Dae!

Went to see Gus (El Mysterioso) and his band Los Mysteriosos the the other night at Fitzgerald’s. They were awesome. Spanish rock songs about love and loss. Those guys really play from the heart.

They had Jive Ass Nobodies, and Dante vs. Zombies open for them. Click below to see some pics from the evening.

Brandt & Kathy

Living Between Worlds

Took a trip down to Gallery 1988 tonight to see the Brandt Peters & Kathy Olivas show “Living Between Worlds”. I’ve been a big fan of each of their works for a while now, but only recently learned that the two were married. They were both at the show and i was lucky enough to get to talk with them for a bit. They collaborate pretty heavily so hearing what they had to say about the process was pretty cool. Just before leaving I couldn’t help but take home something for the wall. I got myself a print and one of Brandt’s little skull masks. Can’t wait to pick it up when the show ends. Check out the pics from the show.

KMC Wheel Collaboration

October 25th, 2009 by Danny

KMC X Urban Overgrowth Rockstar Wheel
Every year, KMC Wheels puts together a look book for its “Rockstar” wheel. This year they decided to do an artist’s series and I was asked to be a part of it. Each artist was given a 22″ matte black wheel to work with and told to do whatever they’d like to as long as the KMC logo and signature center cap where left in place.

I decided to go with a tonal woodgrain effect to take advantage of the clean, matte black. It was a very tedious process involving a lot of masking and clear acrylic. I took a few photos throughout the process. Check them out after the jump.

Back to the 80′s

["Good times ahead."]

Janina and I were invited to my good friend Emilee’s birthday party. It was 80′s themed so I had to find something time appropriate. Wasn’t as easy as I’d hoped it be, but worth the effort.

It was an awesome party. Emilee had asked if I could shoot prom-style photos for her. That was fun. Got some awesome shots, and everyone was psyched to get in there and pose. Here are a few shots from the night.

Comic Con 2009

["Photo by: David Robbins. Yes these people exist."]

Oh lordy… So I just got back from Comic Con, and let me tell you. Wow! and I don’t mean “Wow” in the positive sense. Don’t get me wrong though. It definitely had it’s moments, but jesus. We’re talking about a cesspool of obesity, low self-esteem, identity crisis, and did I say obesity? It looked like a freakin’ audition for a live action Comic-Book Guy character.

But I digress. I’ve always wanted to see what all the hoopla was about. Dave was kind enough to get me a pass. So for the day I had a little identity crisis of my own. I was…

Aquarium of the Pacific

Aquarium of the Pacific

["Jellyfish count as aliens, I mean shit look at them."]

I’ve always had a very deep appreciation for the ocean. Having cable has only deepened that appreciation with all the ocean specials they air on Discovery. I always find myself amazed to learn that we know more about outer space than we do about our own oceans. I think aliens do exist, somewhere in the abyss. There’s some freaky shit out there.

I finally got to visit the Aquarium of the Pacific. I’ve driven past it so many times but never gotten around to going inside. That trip definitely furthered my belief. I took some pictures of some of the awesome stuff they have there.

P.O.T.D: 4th of July

July 4th, 2009 by Danny

4th

["Fireworks over the Queen Mary."]

This year we decided to go down to Long Beach for the 4th. I had told my parents about the Aquarium of the Pacific, and they wanted to go check it out. We went down and checked out all the marine life, then had a nice dinner under the fireworks. Nice night. Long Beach got pretty crowded. It took us about an hour to get out of the parking lot, and almost two more to get back home, but there were tons of fireworks visible from the freeway to more than make up for it.
