["T-Puds with a massive laser-flip"]

Big demo this past Saturday at IG Boardshop in Westlake Village. T-Puds, MJ, Biebel, Jeron, Mike Mo, Daniel Castillo, Jimmy Cao, and Daniel Espinoza were there to represent. I got in the big red RV and headed down to get some photos. Shots from the demo below…

The Dodos

["The Dodos."]

Back in September of last year I got to go help shoot The Dodos for a Fuel TV episode. I’ve been too busy to post anything from the trip. Here are a few shots from the trip.

Aquarium of the Pacific

Aquarium of the Pacific

["Jellyfish count as aliens, I mean shit look at them."]

I’ve always had a very deep appreciation for the ocean. Having cable has only deepened that appreciation with all the ocean specials they air on Discovery. I always find myself amazed to learn that we know more about outer space than we do about our own oceans. I think aliens do exist, somewhere in the abyss. There’s some freaky shit out there.

I finally got to visit the Aquarium of the Pacific. I’ve driven past it so many times but never gotten around to going inside. That trip definitely furthered my belief. I took some pictures of some of the awesome stuff they have there.

P.O.T.D: 4th of July

July 4th, 2009 by Danny

4th

["Fireworks over the Queen Mary."]

This year we decided to go down to Long Beach for the 4th. I had told my parents about the Aquarium of the Pacific, and they wanted to go check it out. We went down and checked out all the marine life, then had a nice dinner under the fireworks. Nice night. Long Beach got pretty crowded. It took us about an hour to get out of the parking lot, and almost two more to get back home, but there were tons of fireworks visible from the freeway to more than make up for it.

P.O.T.D: Dad’s Day

Father

["Vasquez Rocks"]

Went up to Vasquez Rocks today for Father’s Day. Pretty awesome rock formations. We did some hiking, some wildlife, and even got a little lost. They’ve apparently filmed tons of stuff here. I think most recently a scene from the new Star Trek movie.

We ate at this place nearby after. The little restaurant from Thelma & Louise. Worst service ever, and the food sucked. The place did however look kinda cool.

Back To The Berg

Back to the Berg

["Back to the Berg"]

I just got back from an awesome trip to SF with the team. It’s long been a dream of mine to go on tour with the guys I’ve always been a fan of, and while this wasn’t exactly some long epic tour, it’s probably, but hopefully not, as close as I’ll ever get.

It basically came about when I was asked if I could assist Reda with getting some shots for the catalog. We were co-sponsoring a contest with Thrasher, Zero, and Quicksilver at Wallenberg. The Big Four. Probably the last time we’ll see it too, since it’s getting demolished soon. Basically they wanted to get shots of the guy in SF. I was psyched! I figured I’d drive up to SF the day of the event and then drive back, but as it turns out, I was invited along for the whole trip. There would be a demo on the drive up with the Girl and Chocolate guys the day before, and we were going to come along.

Mother’s Day

Mother

["Me, mom, and little brother."]

Today was a very nice day. I got to spend it with my favorite lady in all the world. Mom. She wanted to go to the beach so we packed up and head down to Zuma to walk on the beach. It’s been a long time since I spend some quality time with my mom, especially since I moved out. She was all smiles all day.

The Mine Hike

Mine Hike

["Fuck Rambo!"]

We went hiking again with Dave. This time to a place he had already gone too. You see, a few weeks back Dave went on a hike and sent me a picture off his phone that looked like some sort of mine shaft. After confirming that, we decided that we needed to make the trek.

Dave decided to bring his camera, so I did too (of course) but it was a strict 50mm lenses only trip. We didn’t go insane with the photo taking since the primary purpose was to do this hike, but we got some cool stuff.

Disappointment

["Despite the title...I want to go."]

A hike occurred with Dave this past weekend. Yes this past weekend that was hot as hell. I’m not sure where exactly it was that Dave took us, but it was pretty awesome.

Our Zoo is Shit…

May 3rd, 2008 by Danny

Shitty Zoo

["Hey guys! Let's go to the zoo and carve some shit in the bamboo!"]

As a long-time resident of Los Angeles, the zoo is one of those places that I get real nostalgic about. I think most people really remember their first trip to the zoo. It’s the first time you see those gnarly animals in your kiddy books, and I definitely remember it blowing my mind. The zoo however is also one of those places that could never be as cool. Especially in Los Angeles, and especially today.

I went with local L.A. friend Tracy, who brought her video camera to document, not the animals, but the people who should trade places with the “animals”. During our little adventure, I made a few observations.

Observation number one. Kids today hate the fucking zoo. It’s crazy to see so many angry, crying children in one place at one time. It’s like, “Hey look, a flamingo, I want to cry now.” I don’t get it. Very unappreciative.

Observation number two. The thugs like the zoo. It must be some sort of quasi-Chavez-ravineish, Dodger blue sorta L.A. thing, but damn, 10 maybe 15 different gangs representing? Fat heinas and all. A sea of bald heads and neck tats. I couldn’t tell who was more impressed, the thugs or the animals.

Observation number three. Along with the thuggish presence, was the bamboo pictured above. I mean what the fuck. Lets carve some shit into bamboo? Really? I don’t think that counts as getting up. That’s just lame. I could only hope that one day bamboo will grow arms and legs and get revenge carving some angry shit onto punk-asses. It might cut down on observation number two.

Observation number four. Parents who know absolutely nothing about certain animals, but talk all awesome-like to deceive their child. For example, “Hey Emily look at that! What’s that? It’s a giraffe, yeah a giraffe. It’s so tall because it’s tall! So tall! Tall because it’s tall!” Please people, read the fucking sign before you get educational with the kids.

And finally, observation number five, which is by far the worse, the animals. Yes the very reason people come to the zoo. I mean hey, plenty of animals are endangered, and the zoo provides a safe place for them, but many of the animals here looked fucking miserable. I’d be miserable too if I couldn’t be left alone to do what comes natural. It was pretty tragic. I took some photos. Maybe you’ll see what I mean.

P.O.T.D: Solvang Mission

April 25th, 2008 by Danny

sucked

[They had windmills...that is all.]

Solvang sucked. Well…no, yeah it sucked. I mean the voyage up there was incredible, so the trip itself didn’t suck. Solvang on it’s own however was pretty bland.

Having had so much fun going up to view the poppies, we decided that another little mini-road trip was in order, and this time we were bringing our friend Dave along. I wasn’t really sure what to expect to see on the way up there, but anything would be better then the city so I was open to seeing something new and exciting. There was livestock…new and exciting? Not really, but these walking burgers ad the good life. Plenty of room to eat and poop.

Trip: Poppy Mission

April 13th, 2008 by Danny

Poppy Frolic

[A joyous poppy romp.]

A combination of boredom and thirst for adventure made for a trip to the Antelope valley to view the California Poppies which are in bloom. I had heard of the colorful mass earlier in the week from Josh and it seemed like something worth doing. I wasn’t sure how plentiful these things would be but I figured the at the very least, the journey would be a fun little road trip through some countryside.

Dali at the LACMA

January 6th, 2008 by Danny

Salvador Dali

["Metamorphosis of Narcissus"]

I finally got around to going to the LACMA this weekend to see the Dali exhibit. I’ve been trying to go since I first found out it was in town, and time finally allowed. It wasn’t easy though…

We got there and met my friend Lindsay who had brought two friends. The first words out of her mouth were, “It’s sold out.” I was immediately bummed. How and why would it be sold out? It didn’t make sense to me. Completely heartbroken, I was ready to go home. I didn’t want to linger in the presence of greatness without seeing anything. There was however one option. Lindsay informed me that if you became a member of the LACMA, you’d get two tickets. In other words, if I really wanted to get in, it was going to cost me $90. So much for sold out right?

Truth be told, the opportunity to see authentic Dali artwork was priceless to me, and I have actually been thinking of being a member for some time. So what the hell. I gave in to their trap and am now a LACMA member. Lindsay had to get a membership too in order to get two tickets, and the third person lucked out. With a little flirting and some luck, the security guard found a lady willing to sell one of her tickets for a cool $18. We were all in!

It was an incredible, priceless experience. They were also showing 4 films, one of which was the unfinished Disney project he had began that was recently finished by two artists. Great experience. If we are ever lucky enough to have his work on display again, you should definitely make a day of it. Looks like I’ll be visiting the LACMA quite often now.

Snow Day!

December 16th, 2007 by Danny

snow_1.jpg

I live for snow. It’s one of my favorite things on this planet. It always feels so good to see the mountains covered in snow. I think it’s the fact that I’ve spent so much of my life in the city, because being up in the mountains is one of the few things that makes me stress free.

snow_2.jpg

Just yesterday we drove up to Wrightwood for a day of snowboarding. I’ve only ever gone snowboarding once before and it was painful to say the least. This time around however, it was a lot more fun. I think I’m finally getting the hang of it. It was a lot of fun. The only downer being that I got an earful of snow which ended up melting inside giving me the craziest earache I think I’ve ever had. Brutal, but still a lot of fun. Can’t wait to go back next week!

P.O.T.D: Disneyland

December 9th, 2007 by Danny

disney
The whole family went down to Disneyland today. Every year my dad’s company has a Christmas party at the California Adventure hotel. It’s actually pretty damn generous of them. They give you a free park hopper ticket for the day and $50 spending cash. I love Disneyland. So many awesome memories. It’s great around the holidays too. Definitely my favorite time to go. Took a few pics…
